Hit Parade
2023, Róisín Murphy
Music Róisín Murphy, former half of Moloko, just released her 6th album called Hit Parade.
The Irish artist’s full-length collaboration with DJ Koze is a showcase of everything impressive about the musician sapped of the excitement that has made Roísin’s work feel so vital.
Let me not attempt to reinvent the wheel, as I won’t beat about the bush: this album is a masterful album, probably her best, certainly one that will count for ever. Just read the dythirambic articles in the music press:
A masterful album with an ugly stainThe Guardian, 5/5
Marching to the beat of her own drum, Róisín is setting a precedent to be followed for decades to comeClash, 9/10
A playful record imbued with a sense of mystery and occasional glimpses of autobiographyNME, 4/5
See! Róisín made it! A voicemail left on DJ Koze’s answering machine claimed, « she was really ready ». She was so right. Róisín Murphy, 50, enters the hit parade of our heart through the largest possible entrance.
As for the despicable polemic about her supposed transphobia, the excessive accusations, made by people likely to destroy everyone with a different point of view, are like a storm in a glass of water. Her message was to protect the children. Not to deter adults from taking hormone blockers. Free will.
👉 The Tracks you don’t want to miss are: the absolutely devastating You knew, the hypnotic deep house banger Can’t Replicate, the mutant trap Two Ways.
