Digital Art Japan didn’t just bring us Wasabi, Hattori Hanzo swords and sushi. The Land of the Rising Sun also gave us Goldorak, Mangas and amazing video games.
I grew up on anime and manga. That’s part of who I am.
People over 40 may remember this cinematic, hyper-sexual beach volleyball video game on Xbox, Dead or Alive. The game was full of animated Japanese teens in bikini drawn in the style of those you see on this page. Its gaming was a complete mess we didn’t give a damn about. We really didn’t. Its interest was on a completely different level, somewhere between the crotch and the right hand. That game made our lonely days & nights, until we realized that it was impossible to win a volleyball game with one hand only.
See! Everything from Japan ain’t a success, far from it. We’d like to take this opportunity to thank Japan for all this country has contributed to Humanity, right hand job included. Without being exhaustive, because it’s impossible to be considering the magnitude of Japanese ups and downs, here is a list of them:
- Turn-Offs
-
- Unstated Consent – Japanese society has many unspoken rules, and newcomers may struggle with cultural expectations;
- Excessive Prudery & Hypocrisy – In Japan, adult film regulations are shaped by law which bans indecent materials and mandates pixelation of genitals;
- No Immigration – Zero tolerance for immigrants; Japan lacks a formal immigration policy and public debate on the issue is limited;
- Hard Work & Dedication – Long working hours and a strong emphasis on dedication can lead to burnout;
- Cleanliness & Orderliness – Finding a public trash bin can be surprisingly difficult, as Japan encourages people to take their trash home;
- Self-Segregation – While English is taught in schools, daily communication can be challenging for non-Japanese speakers;
- Society of Appearances – They’re so dehumanized that they’ve invented the « grandparent rentals » concept.
